- Idly rice – 2 cups
- Rice flour – as required
- Salt – as required
- Water – as required
- Pepper – 4 tsp
- Jeera/Cumin seed – 2 tsp
- Ghee – 2 tsp
Steps:
- Soak idly rice for 6 hours
- Grind rice well in mixie/grinder till it reaches thick consistency as possible. Add water little by little while grinding
- Take the batter in a bowl
- Add some rice flour to get consistency like kolukkata maavu
- Make a small ball, slightly bigger than groundnut
- Roll it in palm then with two finger tips , gently press
- Keep it in a plate, repeat to fill the plate
- Boil water well in a broad vessel and add salt as required
- Now add the pressed balls as small batches
- Make sure the water boils very well else balls will stick at the bottom
- Stir well in between adding each batch
- Boil for 20 minutes with occasionally stirring
- Then strain the water. We can also consume this water with pepper powder
-
Take all balls in a bowl
- Coarsely grind the pepper
- Heat 2 tsp of ghee , add cumin seeds and grind-ed pepper
- Fry till cumin seeds turn brown
- Pour the ghee mixture on the balls and mix well
- Serve hot this delicious kaara saara pepper kolukkattai
